Don't Hate Us Because We're Practical.

As you know, this is our first jean, which is a really big deal for a company that manufactures everything in house. Remember - we don't just call up China and say "Hey, send us 10,000 pairs of your tightest jeans cause that's what's trendy right now!" We're basically starting an entirely new business. We have to actually learn about the jean-making process from the ground up, and design something that we think will be sustainable.

There are about 80 people directly involved in the manufacturing process, from design to fabric planning and from cutting and sewing to marketing. We've gotta make a jean that I can like, that you can like, and that won't pop in and out of style in a few months, which would kill our production process. Don't forget, it's taken us almost a year of planning, training and experimenting to get this far! So many of us have taken fashion for granted, but manufacturing new items is far from an overnight endeavor.

I know, I know. That doesn't change the fact that you still want your skinny-to-the-ankles, sprayed-on legging jeans. I know they're hot. I'm wearing a pair from H&M right now. However, I am here to say that The Slim Slack is just not that product. Look at it this way. This is our 501. It's unisex. The rise is not low, but not ultra high either. The zipper is sturdy. The sewing is spot on. We're paying attention to the details of manufacturing, making sure we're putting out a good product that you will be able to wear this season, and three seasons from now. And if you want to get into trends, into innovativeness, we are the first ones (this time around!) to do jeans in every color except denim blue.

So, if you want tight tight tight, low low low jeans right right right now, they're out there in abundance from $30 to $200. No hard feelings if you don't get them from us.

BUT BUT BUT - Once we lock it down, once we're making the best basic jean we can make, watch out! We can take this jean thing as far as we took T-shirts. Hello, high-waisted!

Thank you for not making them skin tight, I like that look but if you gain 2 pounds you cant fit into them anymore and who knows when that will be out of style. I am all for a slim but not skin tight jean..thanks AA

ok! put em on the shelves in japan!

yeah, skinny jeans aren't even what's really hot right now. cigarette pants that don't hug your ankles or baggy boyfriend jeans are cooler!

I love the dog in the picture and the dogged-ness of your, "don't care, we can survive without you," of your post. I'm still dedicated to waiting on these, can't wait to get a pair.

I think I speak for most of us when I say:
We didn't mean to bully you, we're just very impatient to get our pair.
Just consider us as a child asking her mother to stop driving so he can pee. Nothing personal. Plus there's love at the end.
Keep on doing what you do, that's why we keep on coming on your webiste (twice a day as far as I'm concerned). See you soon.

dallas aa needs slim slacks now!!!! i want them on me

Posted by: Aaron 11/07/2006  13:36
and not to say, for the spray-on tight complainers, the most simple thing to do would be to take the slim slack to yr sewing machine and take in the bottoms. fancy colours + the tightness of yr desire.

you do know that with every update you post in an attempt to appease the giddy masses that it only makes things worse... yes, i'm a little child about to pee my pants (as someone put it), but with every post without a release date, i only grab my crotch harder and jump up and down with more vigor. you dont want me to mess myself, do you?

Posted by: s 11/08/2006  11:38
i wish you would

You know, I think its really cool that you guys are actually listening to the consumers. I'm SO glad you lowered the price, let us vote on colors, are being practical for your company size, and I can't wait to own my own pair of red slim slacks. !

we need more details!!!!! what the hell is going on over there??????

Yes, I agree that they should without a doubt be the BASIC "501" type as much as possible, that most everyone can wear, all the time, whatever the fashion landscape is at the moment. I usually only wear Levi's, but they haven't been made in the US for years, their quality is going by the wayside, and it's just about impossible to find a slim fitting, straight to tapered traditional fit. I would also very much like to see some different lenghs in INSEAM! I am very excited to wear some AA jeans. Jeans and RocknRoll! Liberate us from designer jeans!

Posted by: esme 11/09/2006  15:44
sounds good... im glad you made colors instead of denim cas the denim is out of dress code which means i dont really have a use for it... when are the slim skirts gonna be ready??? hopefully not too far in the future!!!! you guys have to realize that i dont want to buy stuff from china but right now the only pants that i can get that i like ARE from china. or taiwan, or korea or vietnam or some other place where you can't tell whether the people get enough money to be able to eat. so really, these pants are a godsend so i hope that i can get some before i need to buy new pants or else ill have to support more child labor please save us aa!

Posted by: tightabouttight 11/09/2006  16:17
i still need to see the pants for myself, if i tried one on and liked it i'll say goodbye to my nudies.

Posted by: shayla 11/09/2006  20:39
ok.

i can't say how much i love you. it's almost slightly embarrassing.

know what would make me love you more, though, american apparel? if you put the pants in stores.

yeah, that'd be something else.

rock on. and make a mint colored pair please. oh god please.
xx

Posted by: P M G 11/12/2006  08:19
i just got my first pair yesturday and i love them. possible the best fitting jeans i own now. i think you guys did a great job. i think all the people bitching should shut up cause what other company do you know that lets the customs comment on there clothing and actually take into consideration what they say. thanks a lot i like them heaps.

I usually buy two pairs of designer jeans in January. If your jeans are in the DC store by then I'll buy from you instead.

As for the inseam debate - take them to a tailor and pick the perfect length for you! It will set you back about $10-$15. (Tip your seamstress but don't let management see - trust me.)

I say instead of going unisex, concentrate on one thing at a time, make female jeans only!! A real good quality female jean in lots of colors in a mainstream cut that won't go out of style and us men can enjoy looking when we see women wearing them...=) Us men can wait.

SEND SOME TO PITTSBURGH!!!!!!

Yes! I would love to see at least the month when these will be up for purchase online. December would be a dream, January would be ideal, and February is pushing it...

Posted by: ac 11/21/2006  20:19
when are the slim slacks coming to Montreal??

Posted by: ole 1/07/2007  13:38
I think AA just fucked up on their sweatshop free policy...
we don't just call up China and say "Hey, send us 10,000 pairs of your tightest jeans cause that's what's trendy right now!"

just by chance you know. think about it.

Posted by: Coley 9/05/2007  17:53
