AMERICAN APPAREL TO HIRE TWO-HUNDRED ADDITIONAL SKILLED WORKERS Los Angeles Based T-Shirt And Apparel Company Product Demand Expands Production. April 20, 2004 Los Angeles (CA)-American Apparel, the largest T-shirt manufacturer in the U.S., continues to expand the company, hiring 200 additional specialized coverstitch, tape, hem bottom and overlock sewers. An offshoot of this increased demand for American Apparel products is partially attributed to the tremendous success of American Apparel's retail outreach through the American Apparel community stores located in New York, Los Angeles and Montreal. In connection to American Apparel's community stores, the company expects to hire another 200 people within the next six-months as it continues to open new retail locations domestically and internationally. L.A. based American Apparel is a vertically integrated manufacturer and retailer of knit garments, producing all of its clothing at its downtown facility, bucking the offshore trend. The company has been among the 10 winners of the ASI Fastest Growing Supplier award for three consecutive years, has ranked among the fastest-growing companies in America's inner cities (Inner City 100) for the past two years and has received the 2004 California Fit Business Award. All of American Apparel's 1700 employees, sewing and administrative staff are paid fairly. The average factory worker earning $12.50 an hour up to $18.00an hour in addition to having access to basic benefits like healthcare and other proactive employee benefits. The company has demonstrated that exploitative labor tactics are not only inhumane, but are far less effective than using technology and innovation to advance business.
