PBS PORTRAIT PIECE ON AMERICAN APPAREL TO AIR NATIONALLY Local Los Angeles Sweatshop Free Company and Senior Partner Dov Charney To Be Profiled On Landmark Documentary Series Realidades. -July 22, 2002 Los Angeles On July 24, 2002 sweatshop free company American Apparel and Senior Partner Dov Charney will be profiled nationally as a companion piece to the break-through PBS drama series American Family. American Family stars Edward James Olmos, Raquel Welch, and is directed and created by Academy Award-nominated director Gregory Nava (El Norte and Selena.) The national documentary series Realidades accompanies American Family, complimenting the hour-long series by profiling the Latino community, culture and interests in Los Angeles. Senior Partner Dov Charney and his company American Apparel have established a prominent presence in the Los Angeles area and globally for breaking the apparel image in manufacturing T-shirts by providing a sweatshop free and beneficial environment to his 800 employees. Charney for over four-years has successfully implemented positive proactive programs within American Apparel that provide a healthy workplace and his personal support of his employees, a majority who come from all parts of Latin America and have established they're home in Los Angeles, each with a personal story to tell. American Apparel has grown leaps and bounds over the course of a short time to become one of the major T-shirt manufacturers in the United States. Charney's vision has proven that it is possible to still produce quality garments in the United States without having to resort to the unsavory business practices that permeate the apparel industry globally. The PBS portrait piece on Charney and American Apparel will provide a colorful insight into the company, Charney's business philosophy and the individual stories of the workers at American Apparel.
